Another play with texture this week.  The theme for Texture Tuesday over at Kim Klassen's is gratitude.   I have so much to be gratful for but these are the words that came to mind first when I saw the prompt.

This was processed using Kim's 'phoebe' and 'and then some' textures.

Happiness photo #3

A place this week.  Here is a place that makes me really, really happy.

I have spent so many hours here.  When the Moo was a baby, pushing her pram round the lake and stopping for tea and cake whilst she slept.  Then walking slowly, slowly round the lake when she was a toddler, stopping to examine every stone, leaf, puddle.  And now, hearing her laughter as she runs ahead and throws bread to the ducks, shouting at the geese if they steal it.

This place has seen a lot of growing.  In so many ways.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Linking up with Scavenger Hunt Sunday at Ramblings and Photos.

Playing Pooh sticks, waiting patiently for her stick to come under the bridge.  We play this a lot although this shot is from the summer.  It's such a simple game yet brings so much enjoyment.

Autumn foliage, making way for the new.

The candid prompt immediately brought street photography to mind.  I love street photography but am way too chicken to do it!  Here is a candid shot of a couple on the beach - the closest I'll get when photographing strangers, though in this case I do like their small scale against the beach and sea.  One day I will dress as a tourist and attempt some street photography in London......(or buy a really good zoom lens.....)

Knife, fork or spoon

Fork!  garden that is......getting the garden ready for winter - despite the confused daisies!

Rule of thirds

Happy Sunday. :)

Week 8 - 365

From the top:  bottling the damson gin; dewy branch; the Moo feeding the ducks; a selfie - I am never usually brave enough to do these but have been inspired to have a  go through Susannah Conway's Photo Meditations (button on the right side bar); Christmas nail varnish chosen by the Moo; bird feed; the first satsumas of the season - Christmas is coming!

Hope you've all had a great week.

Have a lovely weekend. :)

Wednesday, 23 November 2011

Here we are at the middle of the week.  Not sure where the time has gone.  I'm doing Kim Klassen's photoshop essentials course at the minute and learning so much (button is on the right hand bar if you want to check it out).  I've been playing with a bit of texture and though I still have lots to learn, I'm loving it.  Thought I'd link in with her Texture Tuesday and show you one of my first attempts - I know it's Wednesday but that kind of sums up how the week is going for me.

I processed this one using Kim's pumpkin patch texture.

Hope you are all having a good week and are a little more ahead of the game than I am. :)

Happiness photo #2

On my blog travels this week I found that Leigh over at Leigh vs Laundry has already had my awesome idea to post a happy photo every week and has even organised herself with Mr linky tools and a pretty badge, so I am continuing my happiness photo series and linking in with Leigh.  Check the links if you'd like share in the happy. :)

I love this photo of the Moo.  I'm not sure why she is carrying her scooter on the empty pavement when she could be actually scooting but she is looking so purposeful and determined.  This is our favourite stretch of seafront and we've spent many happy hours along here.  The smell of the sea and the colour of the beach huts.....just gorgeous.

Happy Monday. :)

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Linking up with Scavenger Hunt Sunday over at Ramblings and Photos.

Mainly one colour

Some of the skies we've been enjoying this week.

Around the home

This is how my dining table looks about 95% of the time....occupational hazard with a young artist in the family!  We are often presented with a couple of new masterpieces before breakfast.....

A good spot for reflection.

Love the concentration.

Wishing you all a pleasant Sunday. :)

Week 7 - 365

Phew, definitely ready for the weekend.  Here we go:

From the top:  books to swap at book club; poppies made at church for Remembrance day - complete with sticky finger marks :) ;  lunch; autumn sunshine; flowers on my counter; daytime moon; water droplets in my garden.

Hope you've had a good week.  I'm definitely looking forward to a quiet and relaxing weekend.  Have a good one. :)

I feel kind of restless at the minute.  I am surrounded by reminders that Christmas is on the way (not least by an obsessive five year old writing endless Christmas lists!) and yet it doesn't really feel like it.  Looking round my garden today, I think my garden feels the same way.

There are a few signs that winter is on it's way

but today the sky is blue and the sun is shining - a weaker, cooler sun, but shining nonetheless.  This makes a change from the grey, drizzly yet unseasonably warm weather which we have been experiencing and my plants don't seem to know what to do:

I'm not a great fan of winter so I'm not really complaining, it's just, well..........confusing.

Happiness Photo #1

I'm introducing a new weekly feature.   Every Monday I'm planning to post a photo that makes me happy with a few words as to why it makes me happy.  I thought it would be a fun way to kick off the week on a positive note and to explore what it is about an image that really speaks to the heart.  Sometimes I'll post my own photos, sometimes maybe an image from somewhere else; whatever has jumped out at me that week.

So, without further ado, here is happiness photo #1

Here is the Moo, barefoot in the sandpit (despite being in a coat - hey, if you've got to play, you've got to play...), balancing on the edge, lost in her own little world, humming a tune with her mittens dangling by her side.  I LOVE those mittens.  Mittens on elastic absolutely sum up winter childhood for me.  They spend a lot of time being slightly damp and grubby, dangling where they shouldn't, and I'm not sure how often they get worn but I will be buying coats with mittens for her for as long as I can get away with it!

Do you have a photo that makes you happy?  If so, I'd love to see it.  Leave a link in the comments if you fancy spreading some happy. :)

Have a great week.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Trying something new this week, Scavenger Hunt Sunday over at Rambling and Photos.  Such a great idea, I've just never managed to get my act together before!  Here goes:

Before and After (processed image)

Today is Remembrance Sunday, so a poppy seemed appropriate.  I took the original (left) as part of my 365.  The light here is pretty rubbish at the minute (cloudy, grey, drizzle) so I cropped and edited to lighten and brighten it.

Opposing Lines (from Kat's Exploring with a Camera)

I posted on this here.

Custom Bokeh

Have always wanted to try this and this prompt finally made me do it!

Which pair of shoes should I wear?

Ummmm, these ones I think!  (pretty sure she sleeps in them!).

Little features

Is there anything more gorgeous than new little fingers?

Have a great Sunday and thank you Ashley for hosting Scavenger Hunt Sunday. :)

Week 6 - 365

From the top:  fireworks on bonfire night (I was too busy having fun to take a great photo, but you get the idea!); autumn leaves on a mild autumn weekend; berries in my garden - still colourful in November!; catching up; playing with diy bokeh; the moon; poppy for Armistice day.

Hope you've all a great week. :)

Opposing Lines

Most of the photos I take feature family, nature, food and everyday objects.  Ordinary things that appeal visually and evoke some sort of emotion for me.  It is unusual for me to take the kind of shots below but something drew me in, I just couldn't tell you what it was.

Until, that is, I read Kat's most recent Exploring with a Camera, Opposing Lines.  These opposing lines have transformed the humble electricity pylon into something much more dynamic and interesting, giving new perspectives and drawing your eye in.

I am fascinated at how lines draw your eye into an image in so many different ways.  It really has inspired me to go out and play with perspective, lines, reflections and shadows.  It's amazing what you see when you are really looking.

Thank you Kat for another inspiring piece, and getting to the bottom of why I found myself underneath an electricity pylon snapping away!

An award??

The lovely Tracie over at

and the lovely Tezzie over at

have nominated me for the Versatile Blog award and I am thrilled to bits.  Tracie and Tezzie are both huge supporters of my blog for which I'd like to say a massive thank you to them both.  Tracie has been here right from the start - one of my first followers and blog friends, so extra special thanks to you Tracie.

To accept the award you must thank the person who awarded it and include a link to their blog.  Then choose (up to) 15 bloggers to pass the award along to.....and share 7 things about yourself.

So, here goes.  I received the award over a week ago and have been trying to think of interesting things you might like to know about me with no success.  So here they are,  the emphasis here is on random!

  • I lived in Paris for 18 months (about 10 years ago).  There is nothing like walking round Paris on a clear, crisp autumn day.  I am embarassed to say my French is still dreadful. :(

  • If I was rich my ultimate luxury would be to employ a chauffeur.   No more driving would be heaven!

  • I LOVE marmite.

  • Fresh cut grass is my favourite smell ever.  Followed closely by the sea.  A house with a pretty garden by the sea.....yes please!

  • My favourite film is the Wizard of Oz.  I have always, always wanted Dorothy shoes.

  • I'm a nikon girl.

  • I prefer cheap milk chocolate to the fancy kind - give me a bar of Galaxy over 70% cocoa any day!

Here are the blogs I am nominating.

(I know not everyone is keen on these awards so if you're on the list but don't want to accept that's fine, just sit back and bask in the love!).

Big hugs girls and a virtual high five!  :)

Now, go check all those lovely blogs out - Tracie's eyebrow story is definitely one to look out for!

Week 5 - 365

From the top:  lots of halloween baking; decorating pumpkin shaped biscuits; halloween pumpkin; the Moo is getting into the spirit of my 365 project - she was in the bath and shouted "mummy come quick, there is an amazing bubble you can take a picture of".  The bubble didn't last for me to take a picture so we decided to share a picture of her favourite bath toys instead, Nemo and Seahorse; autumn walk; a bit of bedtime reading; autumn cooking - apples and cinnamon, yum!

Hope you've all had a good week.  We have a weekend of family visits and bonfire night.

Have a good one. :)

An Autumn Walk

I went for a lovely autumn walk with my camera today.  It was lovely to enjoy the peace of nature and stop my mind from racing by focussing on my shots.

Lovely hazy autumn sunlight:

Alongside some lovely autumn colours.

I love autumn, but the trees are nearly bare.  Not long til the leaves are gone and the wind really bites.

I saw a beautiful photo recently of a bright red maple leaf against a clear blue sky.  Here's my British version - greeny brown leaves against a white/grey sky.....beautiful in it's own way!

And a little bit of bokeh for my final shot.

Hope you are enjoying the autumn air wherever you are.
