My city

I've lived close to London most of my life and I love it.  I have the usual complaints about pollution and overcrowding and yet I can't imagine not having it on my doorstep.  As I wandered around in the wintry afternoon sun people watching and soaking in the atmosphere, I marvelled anew at it's vibrancy and perfect mix of old and new.

I started off at Somerset House - people watching at its seasonal skating rink and admiring its giant Christmas tree.

After that I crossed the river to my favourite part of London, the South Bank.  I love its proximity to the river, the National Theatre, the London Eye, the view down the river to St Paul's and the City and its bustling Christmas market.

I've been stuck for inspiration and in the creative doldrums lately but was I was reminded that I have so much just sitting on my doorstep.  Sometimes it's easy to take it for granted and yet here it all is, right in front of me.  All I need to do is pay a bit more attention and look a little closer.

Do you have a place that inspires you?

  1. Becs, I really enjoyed this post and these photos. I've visited London three times, once in each season except winter. I'd love to see it at Christmastime! Maybe someday.... Meanwhile, thanks for letting me visit vicariously.
Wishing you a very merry Christmas!

  2. Becs - loved seeing your London "backyard". It is hard sometimes to see the beauty in the familiar but that is often where we can find the wonder.
