A Treat of the Season

The taste and smell of Christmas in a glass.

I'm not of a fan of the 'stick a load of spirits in it too' recipes - the very thought of adding brandy, port or vodka to red wine gives me a headache - but I do like a mulled spice or two.  Jamie Oliver has a nice recipe which you can find here and so does Delia Smith (personally I don't bother with the fruit liqueur).

How about you?  A mulled wine lover or does something else say 'Christmas in a glass' to you?

  1. Love wine, but I'm not big on anything added to it.
Tis is a beautiful photograph, Becs.
    So perfect for the season.
    Wishing you a wonderful day!

  2. I notice that Jamie uses chianti -- and that would make a difference...it's a wine that can "tolerate" the fruit and spices, so obviously the kind of red will create the ambiance of Christmas in a glass (love that!). I prefer my wine "as is" but if it's done correctly I think a mulled wine is lovely on a Christmas holiday night. It would be even better in front of a roaring fire with snow outside...but given how our climate has changed, especially here in southern Canada, I'm not going to get that effect. Thanks for sharing the recipes...I'm bookmarking in case I decide to go all "comfy and cozy are we". And I LOVE that photograph Becs!

  4. Yum! I rarely drink something alcoholic, but I do like a few sip of mulled wine (well, the Italin version, called vin brule`, that is just red wine and spices, no added liquor) during the holidays. :)
Your shot would make a lovely card! :D
    Cheers!

  5. Christmas in a glass for me is a long held family tradition of Christmas morning Champagne – accompanied by lots of crusty bread toast smothered with a French pate sent to us every year by friends who live in Normandy. Delightful! I love your photo; you've captured the mood of a warm and happy Christmas beautifully.
