Morning and Evening

We've had some beautiful mornings and evenings lately.  Clear skies and awesome colours.

Mornings and evenings are pretty low key around here, centred around the home - especially at this time of year.  I am always so much calmer and more grounded if I follow my morning rituals.  Some (or all) of them go out the window on a regular basis but my ideal morning looks like this:

Wake up naturally before the alarm.
Sit with my journal and do my morning pages
Make coffee and have a cup, either before anyone else is up or with my daughter playing quietly in the next room.

The days seem so short at the minute and I am not entirely a winter person but sometimes I really love the long evenings, when everything slows down and the house is filled with the smells of home cooking and Christmas spices.  Evenings in the winter for us are all about snuggling in with books or TV or films, enjoying the glow of candles or fairy lights and keeping warm with extra blankets and duvets.  I love the slowness of winter evenings.

But I can't deny, it is the morning and its rituals that I enjoy the most and that set me up for the day.

I am late to the party over at 52 photos project, but do go and check out the other entries.  So beautiful.

  1. What lovely photos. I envy you your morning time - I get up at 5:30 every morning to take my Irish Wolfhound out for her morning walk before I go to work so to get up even earlier to allow time for morning pages would be a trial! And the problem with these long nights is that it's dark when I walk so I can't even see what's going on each day at the lake where I walk. I have to make do with sound - lots of chatter when the geese are there but the ducks and swans are generally quiet at that time of day (probably still asleep if they've got any sense!).

  2. I feel like a fish out of water when I don't have my "rituals". Sometimes they change, depending on where I am (home, vacation...), but I still try and keep to the usual. It seems to set me up for the day, and when I don't have that, I feel off kilter for the rest of the day. As for winter evenings...they are long and slow and cozy. I don't "love" that it can be dark by 4:30, 4:45 -- but especially in December it's great to have the lights on the tree, or the lights on outside the house and maybe a candle or two...makes me feel happy inside and out! xo

  4. Beautiful skies - the softness of morning light and the deeply saturated colors of sunset. I've been missing sunshine - it has been gray and cloudy for over a week now. I too love the quiet rituals of my morning time.

  5. Lovely and peaceful photos. We are having some lovely days too, frosty but sunny. I still cannot go out coz of my foot, but my mood has improved a lot, LOL! :)
I like your rituals, esp. the one involving coffee. ;)
Have a lovely 12.12.12 ahead, and sweet dreams!
