Happy Easter

Friday's Letter

Dear Bathroom Scales,

OK, look, I know.  But it's been winter here FOREVER.  And eating a lot is just a smart response to a need to keep warm.  Honestly. I'm sure I read that somewhere....
That said, I take your point.  I really do.  So after this weekend, back on the straight and narrow.  Brown rice, lean protein and veg all the way.   I promise.
But let me eat my body weight in chocolate first.  I mean that's what Easter's for, no?

Love, Me

Have a lovely weekend. :)

Small Things

I've been thinking about some of the small things that have become part of my daily particular my gratitude journal that has been completed every day, and my daily readings from Simple Abundance.
It's amazing the difference these small things have made to me over the last few months.  Small shifts in emphasis, in ways of thinking, in ways of being.  No landslides here, nothing scary.  Small and gentle, but most definitely moving forward.

It's the last day of term here, so we're celebrating with egg decorating and cornflake nest making.
Even the sun has made a (very, very) brief appearance. :)

Happy Thursday to you.

Hello Monday

As I sit and type this I have yet another stew in the slow cooker and am looking at a giant pile of hats, coats, scarves, gloves, boots.  So I guess it's an ongoing hello to winter.  Sigh.

In other news, I'm saying:

Hello continued indoor activities - potion making and reading were the order of the day this weekend.

Hello to breaking up for the spring holidays at the end of the week.  Definitely doesn't feel spring like but definitely does feel like time for the holidays. :)

Hello some egg decorating.  I have a bowl of tiny quail's eggs to create with too.

Hello hot cross buns.  YUM!

Hello to cornflake nest making.  Love these so much. {It may be time for a new pan.....}

Hello to seed sowing - inside.  I bought some sweet pea seeds last week - my favourite. :)

Hello to taking care of my new tomato and sweet pepper plants.  Way too cold for them outside.  Brrrrr.

Hello to wildflower seed mix for my problem shaded border.  Really want to get you in.  Come on sunshine.

So you see, I FEEL like spring.   I am READY for spring.  It's just nothing else is co-operating.

Oh well.

Hello week.

What are you up to?

Friday's Letter

Dear Grown Up Dressmakers,

Please, please could you start making dresses like these in grown up sizes.  And no, I don't think I would look out of place in the supermarket or on the school run.  At all.

Love, Me

ps a little less gathering along the waist band would be much appreciated.....but not to the detriment of the twirl factor {obviously}.

Happy Friday, have a lovely weekend. :)

Diptych Love

For the first time ever I'm posting to the Third Thursday Challenge on the right day.  Small victory dance going on in my corner. ;)

And here it is.  Inspired by Brenda herself from her diptych post which reminded me of the great storytelling potential of diptychs.  I've seen so many diptychs popping up on flickr and instagram and I love the storytelling possibilities of them.  I've seen lots of different takes on it - before/after, outside/inside, looking up/looking down, day/night....Kirsten at Mortal Muses wrote a great post called 5 Secrets of a Diptych Addict which has lots of great tips and ideas.

For my diptych, I wanted to experiment a bit with mixing and matching image and word, inspired by some of the layouts I've seen in the lovely Kinfolk magazine.  I'm always intrigued about how images and words can work together and love exploring new ways of expressing that.

So here it is.  Another ode to a spring that seems to have got lost. Soon, I hope, soon.

Thank you to Brenda for hosting.  Hop on over for more inspiration and some great advice on creating textures, including one of her own creations for download.

Wise Words

Today's theme over at texture Tuesday is wise words.  And these wise words come to you via my daughter who gave me this mug for Christmas.
What can I say?  She's a smart cookie. ;)

Hello Monday

Today I'm saying:

Hello colour inspiration.  Pretty new textiles - all the way from India! - and spring blooms.
Hello Easter projects - it's only 2 weeks away.  How did that happen?
Hello to a couple of new recipes to try this week....I get so stuck in a rut with meal planning.  Thinking of trying this and this.
Hello finding a new reader.  Did you know there'll be no more google reader from 1 July?  Holy moly, just when I started to have a clue what I was doing.
So it's hello to bloglovin (and have added a bloglovin follow me button with the subscription options on the right hand side bar).  It was really easy to transfer my reading list there, it's kinda pretty and there's an app so I can keep up on my phone too.

Which reader are you going for?....... please share in the comments. :)

Happy Monday.

Friday's Letter

Dear Me,

Remember when you were at school and you spent so long writing your revision timetable it was then out of date so you just ended up re-doing your revision timetable?  This is the same. Re-writing your to do list is not actually achieving anything or making the list any smaller.

Get your butt in gear.

Love, Me

Happy Friday. :)

Edible Therapy

Baking is ......Life. So when you describe what you're making, you must describe life.  Do you see?  It's not just recipes
Jenny Colgan, Meet me at the Cupcake Cafe

Texture Tuesday is anything goes...a favourite image, with or without texture.

This is mine, taken from my 365:  Collection of Moments project.

I keep coming back to this image.  I keep wondering why.  It's  not the big, celebratory cake with the fancy decorations that was the end result of all this egg breaking and beating.  It is these broken eggs.  And as I wonder, I realise that these eggs represent all the tiny moments of fun and sharing and laughter and love that went in to creating that one big moment.  I love all those moments, and all those moments play their part in the whole.  The cake was fabulous, but the eggs were pretty special too.

Hello Monday

As I sit here the wind is blowing and it is snowing.  Yes, it seems spring is determined to ignore my beseeching note from Friday.  So, I'm playing it cool now.  Whatever, spring, whatever.

This Monday, I'm saying:

Hello snow
Hello (yet another) attempt at meditation.  I am so bad at this but I am giving this 21 day programme a go - it's free! (via Susannah Conway)
Hello thinking about some Easter decorations  - we need all the colour we can get!  Thinking about one of these decorated branches (if I can steel myself for the egg blowing.....).  By the way, did you know Martha Stewart has an egg dying app?!!
Hello to a theatre trip at the weekend (yay!)
Hello to some family time
Hello to sending my postcards off for Liberate your Art.  Are you participating?
Hello to trying some of these natural beauty ideas.  I love the idea of a natural beauty regime but haven't found anything that actually works so far.  Maybe this is it....
Hello to trying to see with new eyes.  So tired of winter but it seems it's back, so the challenge is on to find the beauty and see what me and my camera can capture.

What about you?  What are you saying hello to?

Friday's Letter

Spring is the time for plans and projects

Dear Spring,

Where are you?  You were so beautiful at the beginning of the week and I did so love seeing Mr Sun again.  I even managed to dry my sheets on the washing line and you know how much I love that.  But now it's cold, grey and wet again.

Please come back.  I do so love you.

Love, Me

Happy International Women's Day and Happy Mother's Day for Sunday (UKers).

Have a good one. x

Hello Monday.....

....and hello to a brand new week.  This is how it has started out.  It feels like it's going to be a good one. :)

After last week's rollercoaster, I have pretty much all my hellos from last Monday to begin - all good intentions went straight out of the window!

But, today it really feels like spring is here and I'm ready for a fresh new start.

So I'm also saying:

Hello sunshine, sooooo nice to see you :)
Hello to a bit of a spring clean
Hello to planning my herb garden with Jekka's Complete Herb Book

Thank you for all your lovely comments on Friday's post, they really meant a lot. Between you and me, I'm pretty sure Week got the message. ;)

Here's to a great new week.  What are you up to?

Dear Week

Dear Week,

Well, you have been quite the rollercoaster.  Some real highs, but boy you got your lows in too.  I'm happy to say that all's well that ends well.  But let's not do this again, kay?

Love, Me

I am hoping you all had a more relaxing week than I did.  I'm looking forward to a bit of calm this weekend and wishing the same for you.

Happy weekend. :)
