Friday's Letter

Dear Disney,

I must say, I was pretty sceptical.  The Wizard of Oz is my all time favourite film so to be honest I wasn't really on board with the whole Oz the Great and Powerful concept at all.  But my 7 year old really, really wanted to see it.  And it was snowing which, I have to be honest, played a big part in my decision making.    I hold up my hands, though.  I was wrong.  It was great.  Really great. We both loved it.  All 130 (!) minutes-except-the-bathroom-break-which-we-missed of it.  Thank you.

It is also the first film I've ever seen where I could see the point of wearing those annoying and uncomfortable 3D glasses. (Annoying and uncomfortable though they were). So thank you for that too.

Love, Me

Have a lovely weekend. :)

  1. What a refreshing review! And the glasses simply "made" the adventure!! Happy weekend Becs! xo

  2. Please don't tell my daughter about this or I'll have to go and see it too. She watched the Wizard of Oz each and every Christmas, each and every day of the school Christmas holiday without fail - sometimes twice in a day. Yikes!! I was glad when she went to Uni to study Drama and discovered other film and theatrical delights to fill the holiday with.

3D glasses are certainly due for a technical revolution though - do you think they'll ever come with varifocal lenses for us optically challenged types? Lovely Friday's letter, it really made me chuckle. Happy Friday.

  3. I wasn't too enticed either, Becs, but anyone I know that has seen it, has said it's amazing, so I just might have to...

    Have a fantastic weekend!

  5. We saw it the first weekend it was out--in an absolutely jam-packed theater. I wonder if your daughter enjoyed it as much as the little girl (about 10 or so) who sat next to us. She sort of twittered and giggled throughout the entire movie.

We also used the new movie as an excuse to watch the original again (borrowed from the library) and enjoyed that one as well.

    1. She really did - she sat on the edge of her seat for the whole thing, with her giant glasses on! There were only a few of us in the cinema and my daughter's infectious giggles started a bit of a ripple effect amongst the other cinema goers. So sweet!

  7. Good to read your review here about Disney's version of "The Wizard of Oz". I saw the musical in London and it was totally fabulous - so I've been wary about the film... but I might be tempted now on a rainy day! I hate those 3-D glasses which fit so badly over my everyday glasses! However I have put up with them before and if the film is great, it's worth it!
Have a great week. You must still be in your Easter holiday period, like me!

    1. Hi Sandra. I saw the musical in London too - with my daughter - and we both loved it. Oz is a prequel rather than a remake...and I really do recommend it. Have a great week as well. We are on the second and last week of Easter holidays, lots to pack in!
