Friday's Letter

Dear May and June,

Seriously May, coats and wellies is really not what I expect from you.  Apparently you are the coldest for 50 years.  What's with that???

Despite you, May, half term has been great.  We have embraced whatever you have bought weather wise (and I will give you that last weekend was very nice) and enjoyed being together and out and about.

It is really boring always moaning about the weather so June I am expecting great things from you.  We even bought a paddling pool yesterday in hopeful anticipation.

So long, May.  Let's see if you can up your game next time around.
Come on June.  Let's see what you can do.

Love, Me

Happy weekend. :)

Friday's Letter

Dear Universe,

It's been the week of Anaïs Nin and feathers.  Are you trying to tell me something?

These five Anaïs Nin quotes have crossed my path this week:

Don't let one cloud obliterate the whole sky.

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful that the risk it took to blossom.

For too many centuries women have been being muses to artists.  I wanted to be the muse, I wanted to be the wife of the artist, but I was trying to avoid the final issue - that I had to do the job myself.

Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through.

Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage.

And on every walk I've taken this week, feathers have crossed my path.  Sometimes one, usually three or four. And they seem to be getting bigger.

OK, I guess you ARE trying to tell me something.

It's starting to fall in to place.  Thank you for the encouragement.  I think I'm nearly there.

Love, Me

Wishing you all a very happy Friday. :)

Book Love

I love the library and now that I have a pin number and can do pretty much everything online (who knew!) my life has been transformed.

This is what's currently inspiring me:

Quiet by Susan Cain.
I'm going to have to buy this. I think I'm on my third renewal of it.  It is so good.  Quietly empowering and celebrating us introverts.   I keep coming back to it.  I LOVE it.  Susan Cain is my hero.

Granny Chic by Tif Fussell and Rachelle Blondel
I'm a long time reader of Dottie Angel.  Love all the crafty goodness and inspiration.  I feel a bit of bunting for our garden coming on...not to mention a new embroidery idea.

Elevate the Everyday by Tracey Clark
My kind of photography by the master of the genre.  Adore.

It's All Good by Gwyneth Paltrow.
I can't deny it, I was pretty sceptical.  But I've tried quite a few of the recipes and I must say I'm really impressed.  Beautifully presented with fabulous photography too.  Bonus!

How about you?  What's on your bookshelf?

Friday's Letter

Dear Mother Nature,

You really are rather beautiful.  As I was walking through the woods today I was thinking how lucky I am to have so much of you right on my doorstep.

When I was a child, I loved and savoured you so much.  Nature walks, watercolours, notes, pressed flower projects, rose petal perfume, my Enid Blyton yearbook which is still one of my most cherished possessions.  And then gradually other interests took your place all that passion fell away.  A few short years ago I know I wouldn't have had the time or the energy or the interest to notice the tiny little details that make this world so magical.  I am so grateful that I listened to the wake up call, bought my camera and began this little creative journey of mine.  I had missed so much.

But not any more.  I am here and I am drinking it in and sharing it with my daughter, in whom I see the same childhood passion for you.

Sometimes we get distracted.  But you are so amazing we will always come back to you.

Love, Me

Printing!

I've finally realised that it's a bit nuts to be a photographer and live in a house with mostly bare walls.  I'm not sure why it took me so long to come to that earth shattering realisation but it did.  So I have FINALLY gotten around to doing some printing.

Instagram prints from Origrami (love them....printed in Australia but shipping is free).

And framed prints of my two favourite instagram images, printed by printstagram:

As well as postcards (from Moo).  I also have a selection of images currently at the printers which I am waiting for excitedly. I was thrilled with the sample prints I did and I think they'll look amazing.

I LOVE having my very own artwork hanging in my home -  it even makes me feel 'legit' calling myself an artist. :)

And I couldn't go without saying thank you to Kat Sloma who has been a big influence on my finally getting round to printing.  She is a big advocate of living with your own art and has lots of helpful advice on printing and a resources list too.

Mid-Week Ramble

Words are not coming very easily at the minute.  I can feel a shift.  Not massive, but definitely there and change of any kind, however gentle seems to create a block.....

So, I was kind of delighted to come across this Creative Joy Workbook being offered as a free pdf (via Tracey Clark).  Lots of fabulous inspiration and insight from some amazing creative souls when you need a little pick-me-up.  It also kicks off Creative Joy month (all the details are in the workbook).  If I win the lottery, I'm going on that retreat I tell ya!

And I really love this post by Jennifer Louden Celebrating Being Average.

And that's the beauty of blogland....there's always something out there to lift you up, inspire and get you thinking.

Oh look, I did have some words......

Happy Wednesday. :)

Hello Monday

A peaceful weekend of low key activities - pick up sticks (or 'fiddlesticks' as the Moo has renamed them:), dominoes, swimming, skipping, Lego, reading and scone making.

So I feel I'm easing gently into the week, which is set to gather pace as it goes on so I'm making the most of it.

Hello Monday.

Friday's Letter

Dear Creative Souls,

Wow, can I just say how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE liberate your art.  2012 was my first year of participation and the first time I had printed my artwork out and shared it in this way (or any way really!).  It was amazing.  And this year has been too.

So firstly, thank you to Kat Sloma who dreamt up this event and who coordinates the swap.  Huge, grateful thanks for what I know must be a boatload of work.  There were 216 artists participating this year (high fives all round!).  That's a lot of postcards to collect and send out.  And not only that, Kat photographs them and puts them together into this amazing video.  Injuries have been sustained, people.  Thank you again Kat, and hope your shoulder gets better soon.

Secondly, huge thanks to the fabulous artists who shared their work and specifically those artists whose postcards came to me.  Please know that they have found a good home and I adore and cherish your beautiful work.  They are:

So, did you participate?  You really should.  It is truly AWESOME.  And who doesn't love happy mail?   Sign up for Kat's newsletter here so you are first to hear about the next one. :)

Until next time,

Joining in here.  Alicia's words really spoke to me today..."we mustn't let self-doubt or discouragement prevent us from creating".

Happy Wednesday. :)

How about orange?

Orange seemed to present itself as the pop required for this week's Texture Tuesday.

It also made a nice accompaniment to the first shot of my resurrected 365: collection of moments project (per yesterday's post). :)

Juice anyone?

Photo Heart Connection

I can't quite believe it but this is the first photo heart connection I have managed to get my act together for this year.  Better late than never I guess....even if it is May already!

Which kind of sums up how things have been lately.  Nothing bad, just a lot going on and I have been feeling a little off balance.  It seems where one aspect of my life is relatively under control, another (or even the rest!) seems to be  all over the place.  And as someone who really craves balance and calm it can all seem a little overwhelming.

But slowly, slowly things are realigning and a sense of balance is being restored.  I think this image jumped out at me this month because it is a reminder of the quiet, creative activities that are always at the bottom of the to do list but should actually be much higher up for their restorative qualities alone.  I started this embroidery at the beginning of the month.  For the first time in a long while this is a little sewing  project that is not making me cross or frustrated and is truly serving it's purpose as a creative outlet.

The other reason I think that this photo jumped out at me is to remind me how much I love my 365: collection of moments project which has taken a rather major stumble.  Suddenly those little negative voices grew louder - what's the point of this?  why on earth do you want to remember that?  who cares?.  Well actually I've come to realise that I care.  Very much.  And whilst the moment might have seemed so fleeting as to be almost irrelevant, looking back on the photos I have so far I realise just how much I cherish those visual reminders of our daily life together.

Time is flying by. So fast.  My daughter finishes infant school in July.  How did that happen?  We will soon be on to the next little chapter and I want to savour every moment I can.  My 365 is back on. :)

Friday's Letter

Dear Week,

Well, firstly I'd like to thank you for the sunshine.  Very needed and very much appreciated.  Thank you.

Other aspects have been a little trickier.  This term is not so easy for a little girl who's isn't really into sport or performing.   No school yesterday and a trip to the Natural History Museum made things a little easier.

I'm thankful this is a bank holiday weekend - especially as sunshine is promised ALL weekend. :)
I'm off to bake a cake for an after school treat and clean the house so that we can all kick back and relax this weekend.

Happy weekend.

Love, Me
