Friday's Letter

Dear Day,

You've been pretty awesome so far.  Three tickets for the price of one in the car park so I was able to dish out 'free parking' to a couple of (very grateful) people.  And the lovely man in Carluccio's gave me two tablespoons of amaretto in a takeaway espresso cup for my peach jam so I didn't have to buy a giant bottle. A sweet friend also texted me to say the (designer!) top she found yesterday at a charity shop doesn't suit her and would I like it.  Yes please!  Love it when the universe plays the pay it forward game!

My peach jam is bubbling away, my house smells divine and although it's currently raining we are promised a lovely weekend.

It's the small acts of kindness and the simplest of things that really kind of rock, no?

Love, Me

A massive thank you to everyone for your amazing support of my little Etsy shop.  I am truly overwhelmed by your comments, advice and support.  THANK YOU.

The winner of the giveaway is Brenda at How to Feather an Empty Nest.  Woo hoo!  Email coming your way. :)

Have a lovely weekend. :)

Attempts at a Manifesto

We've been taking about manifestos over at Beyond Beyond and as I don't usually use text in such a graphic design sort of way, I thought it would be a fun challenge for Brenda's Third Thursday link up.

The best part was thinking about what to put on it.  The words I've chosen are an absolute reflection of me and the things that are important to me.  I'm sure that this will get altered and added to over time, so I am inclined to think of this as a starting point, something to build on rather than a set of 'rules for life'.

Honestly, there's not really a graphic designer in me trying to get out but as a one off it was fun to experiment.  Maybe next time I'll crack open the felt-tips and do it freehand!

To see how it should be done, Leonie Wise has produced a fabulous one (which you can download for free).  And there is of course the very awesome Holstee Manifesto.

I'm actually feeling pretty proud of myself as this is third new challenge I've done this month. Woo hoo!
My first was opening my Etsy shop (giveaway is still open, so check out this post - open til tomorrow evening (UK time), winner will be announced Friday).
And my second was that I have started shooting in RAW.  Previously I was shooting in fine quality jpg but I am loving the flexibility of RAW, especially in lightroom.  I have no idea why it has taken me so long to do this but I have finally done it!  My first RAW shot appeared in Monday's post.

How about you.  What have you tried this month?  Come and share at Brenda's!

Hello Monday

Saying hello to more colour this Monday!  Summer of colour's combination today is lime green and purple.  I'm loving these colour combinations - and this one smells pretty lovely too. :)  Come and check out the other entries and play along, it's so much fun and there are so many fantastic artists participating.

I'm also saying:

Hello to a bit of a spring clean...a bit late I know, I'm just following our weird weather patterns. ;)
Hello to end of term summery events.  Honestly, we're not even in to July and I'm ready for August and some play time.
Hello to a bit more sorting out in the garden.  I think this year is the year of the dandelion...

and lastly.......

Did you come and say hello to my new Etsy shop?  Come and take a peek - and it's not too late to enter the giveaway.

What about you?  What are you saying hello to?

Do you want to catch....

.....a little piece of sundust?

Having largely ignored my word of the year so far, I have used up six months of brave in one fell swoop and am very happy to announce (drumroll please...)

Ta dah!

A selection of my very favourite images are now available as prints.  They have been printed at a professional lab and are all mounted and ready to go straight in to your frame (there's a note on the Etsy product details about what size frame you'll need so you can be ready to go whilst your art ships!).

There is lots more to come including cards and postcards but if I don't open what I have right now the brave will vanish and I'll just have an awful lot of prints in my house....

So, pop on over, take a peek.  Come back and let me know which are your favourites in a comment for a chance to win a 7x5" Tranquility print (10x8" with mount).  I'll put the names in a hat and draw the winner next week.

I hope you'll find something you love there.

Come and catch some sundust. :)

Happy weekend!

One image, three ways

Sticking to colour again today!  We've been playing around with lightroom, photoshop and textures over at Beyond Beyond and this is my take on the exercise.

Images 1 and 2 were edited in lightroom.  Image 3 in photoshop using Kim Klassen texture anne.

I am always amazed and fascinated by the endless possibilities of editing.

I'm leaning towards number 2 being my favourite...but then I love the vibrancy in number 3 and the sultry summer feel of number 1....

How about you.  Do you have a favourite?

Hello Monday

Hello Monday....and hello colour!

I'm participating in the Summer of Colour over at Twinkle Twinkle (found via Sarah - thanks Sarah!).

We currently have 2 main colours going on over here....grey (sky) and green (everything else).  I won't complain about the green, but the grey's a different story!  So, the perfect antidote.  Playing around with colour combinations.

I'm late to the party so here are my entries for weeks 1 (above - citron green and turquoise) and 2 (below - orange and hot pink).

Why don't you come and play too?  Who doesn't love a bit of colour?

Happy Monday!

Friday's Letter

Dear You,

Hello!

A letter of randomosity today.

Firstly, my wardrobe experiment failed.  It is freezing here.  It's official.  I cannot live without jeans.

Secondly, I have messed up my readers.  I started by going to bloglovin.  Changed my mind and went to feedly.  Haven't really mastered or fallen in love with either.  I don't have time to check my reader every day.  With google I could see when there were other unread posts when I clicked on a blog.  I can't do this with the others (I don't think.  I am quite technically....um....challenged.  And impatient.). I feel like I'm missing loads of good stuff.  Any suggestions?

Thirdly.  Rubbish weather.  I know.  Blah blah blah.   But I'm fed up of it.

Hmmm.  This letter is not very uplifting so far.  So here's the good:

Firstly, it's Friday today.  Yay!

Secondly,  I have an evening of friends and craft planning this evening.  Double yay!

Thirdly, I bought this magazine yesterday.  Have never picked it up before but it's really good.  Proper articles, good photography and subject matter which doesn't make me feel bad about myself.  Win!

So, how about you?  How was your week?

Happy weekend. :)

Love, Me

Hello Monday

Hello Monday.

I'm so not ready for you.

And broken coffee pots do not make for a good start.

But let's give it a go.

Hello week.

and

Hello to you. :)

Friday's Letter

Dear Wardrobe,

I think you and I need to get reacquainted.  I seem to wear the same jeans/shirt/cardigan combo every day and it's getting a little dull.  Not to mention unnecessary as you are full of other clothes.

Today I am counting as a small win.  Even though those are technically jeans...they are very skinny and have a lot of lycra in them (I refuse to use the term 'jeggings') and I never usually wear tunics.  But still, I take on board it's not a radical departure.

The GOOP website has a challenge to eliminate jeans entirely for a week.  I'm going to give it a go.

Can you let me know if there is anything you are storing that actually matches?

Love, Me

Happy weekend. :)

Magic

I am sure there is magic in everything, only we have not the sense enough to get hold of it and make it do things for us.
The Secret Garden, Frances Hodgson Burnett

Remember that feeling in childhood?  Of being so swallowed up by the story you are reading that it becomes part of your life?  That everything you see reminds you of something in the book, words remind you of words used by the characters, your games become games about those stories and the characters are so real they become your friends?

I see that in my daughter now.

We read The Secret Garden together and here she is, searching for what might lie behind the closed door, calling out to visiting robins and imagining that she is there with Mary, Dickon and Colin.

Magic.  Pure magic.
