Dear Friday

Dear September,

You've been a bit of a toughy.  New school, new schedules, new routines.  Lots of new things to get used to.  It seems the older I get the less good I am dealing with change.  I've felt a little adrift.  A little foggy.  A little unfocused.

But, I think I've finally got it down.  I have marked October - my birthday month - as my month to regain focus - here, my shop, my kitchen, my fitness.  The works.  Not major changes.  Just getting it back together.  And maybe a new project or two.

I love that things are settling down again.  I love ordinary, everyday, calm.  Time to spend at home as the season changes.  Time to nurture.

Looking forward to you, October.

Love, Me

A few new little things have made it into the shop this week - click here to check them out.

If you'd like to stay up to date on my shop, you can follow me on Facebook.  Massive thanks to those of you who have already 'liked' me.

Happy weekend. :)

Hearts & Gratitudes

A random and incomplete list of things I'm grateful for today:

Spending time at home with my girl.
Our daily routine.  Busy but manageable and I don't feel pulled in a thousand different directions
Space to listen to my heart.
Time to spend on my art.
Woodland and green spaces on my doorstep.
Fresh air and nature.

How about you?

Friday's Letter

Dear Negativity,

I hear you.  Really I do.  Loud and clear.  And never more so than when I am doing something associated with my creative business.

So here's how yesterday went (in case you've forgotten).  Trying to build Catching Sundust Photography's facebook page (for the second day, sheesh it's complicated....or I'm too old....) and I hear you.  Why are you bothering?  Who will be interested in this?  In your art?  In you?  Honestly, negativity, I am getting used to you and I ploughed on through.  But it is exhausting.

Later on  picking up my ipad and cruising through some blogs and pinterest, cosmic balance worked a little magic and I was reminded of the following:

Nobody cares, do it anyway.  I love this quote.  I can't remember who said it (Henry MaCleod? Seth Godin?) but YES.

This rather awesome article on the Motivation Myth at Kind Over Matter.  Do it anyway.

And this article When Things Don't Sell by Tiffany Han.   My favourite part is this
The success of your business has nothing to do with your success as a human being.

So, take that negativity.  I have respectfully chosen to ignore you.  I am creative, I love the creative process.  And whilst I would like my creative business to be a success as Tiffany Han points out, its success (or otherwise) is not a reflection of me as a human being.

My choice remains to do it anyway.

Love, Me

Here's the link to Catching Sundust Photography's facebook page.  I would love you to take a look and 'like it' if you do.   A big thank you to those who already have.

Happy weekend. :)

Three little things

Three little things making me happy today:

1.  Yoga.  I went.  I worked.  I feel good.
2.  The sound of the rain.
3.  Hot tea.

How about you?

In and Around Balliol

And just like that, as though a switch had been flipped, autumn has arrived. A cosy weekend escaping from the rain gave me time to catch up on some photo editing.  So, here is my first batch of photos from Oxford.  These are all taken in and around Balliol College.

It's amazing to step off the hustle and bustle of the High street and enter these peaceful, beautifully kept courtyards.

Soft notes from the piano blew across the courtyards from the open windows.

Secret gateways led from one courtyard to the next.

And shady benches provided a place to sit and people watch.

It is always the spires I think of when I think about Oxford (all those sweeping panoramic shots at the start of Morse and Lewis I should think!), so a few of those were a must - especially against that amazing blue sky.

A truly lovely place to wander round.

Friday's Letter

a little bit of fence friday too....

Dear Blog,

Summer was great (see last week's letter) and I loved August Break.  To be honest, blog, I'm quite surprised because I did still really miss you.   I didn't fully appreciate it before but writing posts really connects me to how I am feeling (even when the post is not directly about how I feel).  I also hadn't appreciated how much my photos are a reflection of that too.  Most of my August break pictures were scheduled in advance and I really notice the loss of connection looking back now.

When I started you I used to read about bloggers who plan their posts in advance, write the majority of posts at the weekend and just put 'finishing touches' to their posts before hitting publish.  I used to really fret about the fact that I am totally unable to plan and run my blog like that.  I rarely have any idea what I'm going to blog about pretty much until I start typing!

But maybe that's OK.  I guess you are really my online journal of my works in progress (myself as much as my images and writing!).  I think I'm too far along to change how I do it anyway.   I've always said I would give up blogging if it ever felt like a chore and I think the planning aspect would make it in to one.  On the flip side of that, I wanted to let you know that you are kind of great and I really, really like you.
Let's keep going, kay?

Love, Me

Texture Tuesday

During the summer we spent a couple of gorgeous days in Oxford.  I have lots of images from there waiting to be edited, but here is the first of them.  I love the beautiful stonework, the history of the colleges (this was shot in Balliol) and the whole atmosphere of the city. The sunshine didn't hurt either. ;)

On the Edge

On the edge of autumn.
On the edge of rain clouds and grey.
On the edge of new routines.
On the edge of new adventures and more independence for the Moo.
Loving watching her spread her wings but I'm
On the edge of having to let go of her a little bit more.
On the edge of freaking out about that.

So that's me today.

Friday's Letter

Dear Summer,

You were AWESOME.  I am really, really sorry to see you go.  We had such a lot of fun, I loved every second.  I am kind of missing it.  The house is really, really quiet.  And whilst my to do list is massive, I'm really struggling for the motivation to do anything about it.

Big sigh.

So summer, let's do it again next year, kay?  You have to promise to be like this one (weather-wise at least, I can take care of the rest ;).

Thank you for being so fabulous.

Love, Me

Texture Tuesday

We are almost, almost at the end of our summer break.  Almost, but not quite.  Two lovely days still to savour.  I'm not sure how it is September already.

For this week's texture Tuesday I'm not letting go of summer just yet. And my favourite summer flowers, sweetpeas, capture that summer feeling perfectly.  A little past their best here, but that seems pretty apt too.

So, how was your summer?  Ready for September?
