'Tis the Season

Christmas sparkle

Last year we made a decision to cut back a little at Christmas. The result was we still had a lovely Christmas, we just wasted less and appreciated more.

This year we are taking the same approach.  And I although I am behind with everything, I am letting it go, trying to enjoy the moment and trusting that all will be well whether I've written the Christmas cards or not.

This year we have the added bonus of a little extra holiday time for the Moo.  Time for rest and relaxation, a little baking, meeting up with friends, time to take in the lights and let ourselves in to the season gently.

At this time of year, when we have short, grey days the sparkle and twinkle of the Christmas lights is one of my favourite things.

How about you?

  1. Oh I am so with you on this Becs. Too many years of trying to do it all, get it "right", be the most, have the most out of the experience and all I ever ended up was burned out and tired! So over the last few years I've just made it simple, kept it simple, enjoyed the moments and appreciated more of the people in my life and the time we have together. I'm more about the experience of shared quality time than I am about being at the mall, searching for "that" gift and I just do what feels right. I have a tree up -- nothing on it yet. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe it will remain undecorated. And whatever it will be -- will be enough. Love that you are doing this and that you've got extra time this holiday season with your Moo! xoxo

  2. I'm a fan of simple, I do love the light & decorations. We're away for Christmas this year for the first time ever, will still catch up with family but I'm rally looking forward it. Of course it's summer here, so long sunny days ahead, have a lovely Christmas x

  4. I'm totally with you, Becs. The more we pare down Christmas the more I enjoy it and the more meaningful it becomes. We have a tiny tree on the boat and lights on the lifelines but that's about it! Wishing you a warm and wonderful and meaningful holiday!

  6. We've simplified as well, especially around the gift-giving aspects of the holidays, but we do enjoy the lights and other decorations that mark the season. We still send cards, one of the holiday tasks I used to dread. This year, however, I decided to embrace the idea because I finally realized how much I enjoy receiving cards and letters from family and friends--especially since we only correspond with most of these people during the holidays. My changed attitude helped a lot--our letter seemed easier to prepare, it didn't take nearly as long to sign the cards and letters as I expected, etc., and now I have guilt-free enjoyment of all the holiday mail we are receiving.

Enjoy your holidays--it sounds like you are on the right track for sure!
